BARABOO, Wis. -- Nearly a month after 13-year-old James Yoblonski went missing in the Baraboo Bluffs, local law enforcement leading the search said they're still working to rule out every possible explanation for the teen's disappearance.

"We're still treating this as a missing persons case," Lt. Steven Schram with the Sauk County Sheriff's Office told News 3 Now on Thursday. "We're investigating everything that can go along with that."

Yoblonski reportedly left his home sometime overnight June 12 into June 13 in his family's van, which was later found along Highway 12 near Devil's Lake State Park. He has not been seen since.

Roughly a week into their search, local law enforcement said they found evidence in the woods that led them to believe the 13-year-old may be trying to live "off the grid" as a survivalist. While Sauk County Sheriff's Office officials haven't been able to fully confirm what equipment the teen might have with him, the boy's family reported several items missing from their home including food and wilderness survival guides.

During the first week of searches, Sauk County authorities found 2 campsites believed to have been set up by the teen.

Schram added that the sheriff's office has gotten several tips of possible sightings, though most of them were reported too late to be helpful for the investigation. Other tips, including reports of new items located in the woods, have prompted renewed searches but have yet to lead to any significant progress in search efforts.

Law enforcement's main focus, Schram said, is ruling out other possible explanations for Yoblonski's disappearance, including whether or not the teen might have gotten support from someone else.

If and when new information comes in that might help locate Yoblonski, Schram said the sheriff's office has personnel on standby to react. No large-scale searches were planned as of Thursday, but that could change at a moment's notice.

"We're just as concerned about it as everybody else," Schram said.

 

I don't understand why his parents haven't been questioned more. This is 20 minutes away from my hometown, so I'm seeing a lot more info than just news articles. But who knows how true those 'facts' are. But according to everything I've read, the parent's haven't been as forthcoming as one would hope, and I'm thinking they should be questioned more.

 

Seems the kid owned a lot of woodland survival guides and knew more about living off the grid than first thought.
Hopefully he's fine and just being a kid trying to become a man in his own way.

It always raises a red flag to me when the parents aren't forthcoming with info. Most people would be frantically telling all to try and get their child back home safely.

 

WOW, a little white kid is missing and the world stops but let that be a black or brown kids and no one fucking cares. Look at the Rudy Farias case, a Hispanic child missing for 8 fucking years and not one person ever went to check his mothers house where he was safe and happy all along. Granted he was 17 when he went missing but not a single mention here?

 

I haven’t heard anything about the parents’ lack of involvement… the news reports I’ve seen showed them holding a press conference and appealing to the public for help with a search.
Did they not report him missing on a timely basis? As the parents of a teenager, it might not be so strange that they’re out-of-touch with what he did and why he did it. Perhaps they simply don’t have any additional information to give.
I’m hoping the fact that they’ve found several of his campsites indicates that he left of his own volition and is somewhat prepared to deal with the elements… at least that would indicate there’s no foul play involved.
Hopefully they’ll find him soon, and he’ll get the help he needs to deal with whatever drove him away in the first place.

"Slow" individuals are not fully functional due to some type of disability. You say the father is drunk and abusive, and that Rudy left to escape being placed in the father’s custody, yet multiple reports say the father (an allegedly dirty cop) died by suicide a year BEFORE the son went "missing". It’s a sad fact that certain cases don’t get all of the resources and attention that others get, but you’re hurting that situation rather than helping it, by "crying wolf" about how THIS case was handled.

It’s now a month since James went missing. As a parent, I’d be out of my mind at this point. I hope he will be found soon and is safe.

And what happened to @Sanity_is_Relative ? He likes to talk about "being a man", but it seems he’s not man enough to explain why he invented a relationship with the (long-deceased) father of Rudy Farias. He was also adamant that Rudy was NOT disabled, yet Rudy’s own mother described him as suffering from "both physical and mental disabilities" on a GoFundMePage she set up to (supposedly) facilitate search efforts. Now that her hoax has been revealed, the page was closed and she has been permanently banned from the site. I hope they make her pay back the money she collected.

Everyone wants a perfect society, as long as it is their vision of perfect. Aside from that we all can be assholes, no one denies that racism exists, that there is discrimination and there are people that have opportunities that many will never have. SAUK COUNTY (WKOW) -- 13-year-old James Yoblonski has now been missing for exactly one month.

Yoblonski went missing from his home near Reedsburg back in June.

Officials believe he took the family van and left it on the side of Highway 12 near Devil's Lake State Park.

The Sauk County Sheriff said they are still working to find him, and there are several people working on the case.

Yoblonski's father, Bill Yoblonski, sat down with 27 News and said waiting for answers has been a nightmare.

"It's your worst nightmare coming true," Bill said.

30 days and 30 sleepless nights, Bill Yoblonski said he hasn't stopped wondering where his son could be.

"I wanna know where he's at," he said. "I don't care why he did it, I just wanna know where he's at and I want him home."

Bill said trying to describe what this past month has been like feels impossible.

"[It's been] a living hell," he said. "Not sleeping, nightmares, getting tips from different people and searching different fields."

He remembered the moment he realized his son was gone.

"He wasn't in bed so I checked the bathroom, he wasn't there, so when I turned around and looked out the window, the van was gone," Bill added.


Bill said he's holding on to hope that his son will be found, but is growing frustrated.

"I'm not getting a lot of answers from the sheriff's department," he explained. "I'm getting some, but a lot of unanswered questions."

27 News reached out to the sheriff's office and was told to email them with any questions.

We sent a list of questions including: Is James’ disappearance being investigated as a criminal matter? If so, are there any suspects? Do you believe James met with someone? Do you think he's still in the woods?

The lieutenant responded with a press release which said it's still an active investigation and they are looking into all avenues. However, he did not answer our questions.

When James Yoblonski first went missing, investigators told reporters they did not believe anything suspicious happened.

After several days of searching, they told reporters they believed Yoblonski might be attempting a survival mission.

Fast forward a few weeks and they have not said if either of those statements are still true.

With so many unknowns, Bill Yoblonski said it's hard to not think the worst.

"I'm thinking it was an abduction," he said. "There's no clues in the woods."

No matter what, Bill said he won't stop looking.

"I just want him home," he added.

A month at 13 years old in June hmm I'm calling it gray wolf mountain lion or blackbear got him. At 13 in the woods for that long if he did not have a gun with ammo he's not on top of the food chain there.

 

Regardless of how he went missing, I hope they find him, dead or alive. As a parent, the not knowing would be torture.

The only news here in Texas is what I look for. Been watching MSM I seen nothing, not saying it wasn't reported on, but not much if so. Hard to say what all possibility are. Hopefully the kid is alright and we'll learn what was what.

 

So where is the outrage for this young, beautiful black woman in Georgia that reported a toddler on the roadway that went missing? Not one word here? It has been the 72 crucial hours and still nothing other than a man standing next to a grey car, but not one fucking peep here from the beautiful lily whites about another minority gone, I wonder why.

James Yoblonski, a Wisconsin 13-year-old, has been missing for more than a month after police say he left home with a family car — and possibly his dad's handgun — in mid-June.

The younger Yoblonksi's last suspected whereabouts were near the Baraboo Bluffs on the western edge of Devil's Lake State Park on June 11, according to the Sauk County Sheriff's Office.

Now, his worried father is offering a $10,000 regard for his son's safe return.

And the money will come from mortgaging his home, William Yoblonski told the Madison-based WISC News.

"The $10,000 reward is only if he’s found," he told the local news station. "In the last three weeks, we haven’t gotten any tips or anything."

James ran away last month, likely to live off the grid at Devil's Lake State Park, Madison.com reported at the time.

During a large-scale search effort, police dogs found a possible campsite but no other signs of the boy.
